CRY (Cryo-payload EX)
takafumi.ushiba - 17:36 Friday 19 January 2024 (28334) Print this report
Apply current to the IM heater on EX payload

Since we started the payload cryocooler to keep the radiation shield temperature low (klog28275), EX payload temperature is now gradually decreasing.
So, I turned on IM heater on EX payload to keep the current temperature.

Setup of power supply can be seen in fig 1.

The temp is now 102K and on the process of increasing. Ushiba-kun will reduce the current.

The temps of EX and EY IM are almost the same, ~65.6K around 10:44. However, the currents for IMs are almost the same: 0.08A and 0.078A. So the current for EY of 0.08A is better to reduce because of the lower cooling power for the EY payload.

shinji.miyoki - 3:47 Wednesday 12 March 2025 (32966) Print this report

The present IM temperatures of EX and EY. So, should the current for the EX IM heater be more than 0.08A, but less than 0.1A? On the other hand, the current for the EY IM heater should be kept?

At least 90K can be acceptable for the IM temp. However, the warmup speed seems to be small.

Judging from the temp situations just before starting cryocoolers for the payload, only outer shield temps (80K_SHIELD_SIDEA/B/TOP) and the 4K_REF2/4_50K_HEAD, and maybe the area between these two points are over 157K at which the water will come out.

In addition, the vacuum level changes at EXT and EXC were small (8->5x10^-6Pa, 5->2.5x10^-6Pa) when the temperatures of these areas fell below 157K. this means that the water reduction and increase effect will be small.

So, we believe we can stop these cryocoolers for payloads (or one of the coolers) for a while to accelerate the warmup. However, cracking noise could be occur again for a while.
