Replacement of the damaged OMC DCPD

Tanaka, Sugimoto, Uchiyama, Aso

We replaced the damaged OMC DCPDs with new ones.

The procedure was following:

  • Lock the OMC suspension.
  • Remove the diodes from the holders using a tweezer (see the attached photo).
  • Measure the length of the diode pins, which was 8mm.
  • Cut the pins of the new diodes to 8mm.
  • Cut open the can of the new diodes. It took 30min for the first one and 1h40min for the second one.
  • Insert the new diodes into the holders using a long nose plier.

As reported here, the PD dark noise seems fine now. Also we confirmed that the OMC can be locked in air.

Just a memo of new PD (C30665GH) stock:

  • One in MIF
  • Two in CAL
  • One or two in ISS (to be confirmed soon)

Anyway, we will buy more (~10) from maybe Tohoku-denshi inc. although the lead time could be long. For emergency case, Hamamatsu Photonics G10899-03K whose efficiency is lower and dark noise is higher can be used

Although Arai-kun found some websites to offer C30665GH cheaply and quickly, he and I also noticed that they were not unreliable sites.

It seems C30665GH and G10899-03K have different pin assignment. So probably G10899-03K cannot be used as a replacement of C30665GH.

Thank you for your confirmation. To use Hamamatsu PD, should we change its wiring part or insert a swapping wire also??
