Power supply troubles in PR3 and PRM
[Yokozawa, Kamiizumi, Tomura, Ushiba, YamaT]

Abstract

- PR3 and PRM was down at 6:41 because the power supply as DC -18V was tripped.
- We wasn't able to identify the broken circuit.
- After recovering all circuits, the power supply unit was tripped again.
- All circuits were turned OFF tonight for safety.

Details

In this morning, we noticed that all ADC channels on PR3 and PRM became digital zero.
At first, I thought it's problem only on PR3, So I guessed this was the software problem and restarted k1vispr3t and k1vispr3p.
However they were not recovered by restarting.
Note: I forgot to check the SDF of PR3 models before restarting. So I need to check all the set point values to recover the alignment.

After entering mine, I found that the power supply as DC-18V was tripped.
So we turned OFF all circuits in PR3 and PRM racks once.

The power supply unit was turned ON after breaker switches were also turned OFF,
At this time, the power supply unit seemed to work well (output voltage was surely -18V and no error indicator was light up).
As the next step, we turned ON each circuit one-by-one in order to identify broken circuits.
But all circuits was able to be turned ON in properly. Both +18V and -18V indicator on the rear panel was light up.
Finally, PR3 and PRM racks were able to be recovered once.

After the recovery real-time models worked well for a while (~30min).
But the power supply unit was tripped again.
For the IMC closing work, we recovered only PRM rack again and it worked well roughly 3.5hrs.
We planned to keep this situation tonight. But unfortunately we found the power supply unit was tripped again after IMC works.
For safety, we finally turned OFF all circuits in PR3 and PRM racks.

Abstract

- New power supply units were prepared for PR3 and PRM.
- We are waiting and seeing the stability until Friday. And if there will be no problem, we will unify the power supply for PR3 and PRM.
- IO chassis for PRM were accidentally stopped during today's work.
- Recovering PRM models will be also conducted on Friday.
- If you urgently need PRM tonight or tomorrow pls. let me know.

Details

The power supply unit was operated without any turned ON circuits last night.
At this morning, it was not tripped. So we were not able to conclude that the power supply unit was bad.
Because of this, we decided that power source would be separated for PR3 and PRM as the original plan.

Yesterday, we had already test the combination of PRM circuits and that power supply unit.
So today we tested the combination of PR3 circuits and that power supply unit. And also new power supply units were prepared for PRM circuits.
While we were preparing new power supply units for PRM, the original power supply unit which was used for PR3 circuits were tripped.
Though there was some possibility that there were broken circuits both in PR3 and PRM racks, we decided to replace also the original power supply unit as a new one.

Now we have two set of DC power supply for PR3 and PRM racks and both they are new ones.
We are now waiting and seeing the stability of this situation and if there will be no problem until Friday morning, power source will be unified for PR3 and PRM.
At that time, we will need to stop all circuits in PR3 and PRM racks once (Because of this we will do it on the maintenance day.).

During this work, we accidentally stopped PRM models by stopping the DC24V power supply instead of DC18V.
Recovering PRM models is related to Dolphin issue though it is not so difficult work.
So we decided to recover these models also on the maintenance day if there is no necessity today or tomorrow.

For the main IFO work planed tomorrow, the PRM model recovery work will be done in tomorrow morning.
So, we wil once request all suspensions to SAFE state in tomorrow morning.

For the alignment work, PRM front-end was rebooted this morning.
(SAFE was requested once for all suspensions at that time.)

Power supply units for both PR3 and PRM weren't tripped last night.
It's likely that the original power supply unit was broken and circuits are not broken.

If they continuously works well today, we will unify the power source of PR3 and PRM.

Because there was no problem on new power supply units for PR3 and PRM recent three days, power source is unified for PR3 and PRM.
All circuits in PR3 and PRM racks were turned OFF once and power strips were re-connected to the breaker box.
Now power source of PR3 and PRM racks is in the computer room as a new unit.
