Gluing GR mirror, PZT and mirror blank

Uehara, K. Tanaka

We glued the GR mirror, 3 PZTs, and the mirror blank. Now we're waiting for the glue to dry on the table in front of the OMMT chamber, so please don't touch them.

### What we did

  • First, we taped the mirror blank on the desk so that it would not move. (Fig. 1)
  • Place the PZTs on the mirror blanks, 120 degrees apart from each other. Since we had already drawn the ruled lines at 120 degrees apart, we placed the PZT in line with the ruled lines and temporarily taped the cable extending from the PZT so that it would not move too much. (Fig, 2)
  • In this state, we applied adhesive to the PZT and glued the mirror blank to the PZT. Then, before the glue dried, we taped the PZT from above to prevent it from moving. We performed these operations on all three PZTs. We glued three PZTs onto a mirror blank, temporarily fixed it with tape, and then added weight on top. (Fig. 3)
  • According to the instructions for the glue, it takes about 30 minutes to an hour for the glue to harden, so we waited for about an hour for the glue to dry.
  • After an hour, we confirmed by touch that the glue had dried, and the PZT and mirror blank were glued together (Fi. 4).
  • We then made a guide so that the center of the mirror blank would be aligned with the center of the mirror. (Fig. 5)
  • We applied adhesive to all three PZTs and placed a mirror on top of them. Then, the center of the mirror blank was aligned with the center of the mirror using a guide. (Fig. 6)
  • To avoid dust on the HR surface of the mirror while the glue between the mirror and the PZT dried, we put a plastic box over the top. (Fig. 7)

Now we're waiting for the glue to dry on the table in front of the OMMT chamber, so please don't touch them.
