Stress-relieves of cable connectors for TMS-VIS-Y

Uraguchi, Akutsu at Mitaka

Have attached several reinforcement parts (stress relieves) to vacuum compatible cables to be used for TMS-VIS-Y. As some of you know, the usual vacuum compatible cables used in VIS have very weak necks, and treating them is too much frustrating. Sometimes the breaking of the necks would waist our time for repairing them... So we like to avoid such waste of time.

Due to limited spaces and the the rigidity of the cables, actually we preparednot a single but a few types of the stress-relieves:

  • Fig 1-3 shows a cable with the straitgh type stress relieves at its both ends. We will commonly use the ones for TMS-VIS-Y.
  • Fig 4 is for a vertical geophone. Note that the round-type connector was already attached and delivered with this shape from the manufacture.
  • Fig 6 shows the one for a horizontal geophone. The semi-assembled state is shown in Fig 5.

Unfortunately some screws were gone so we stopped the work. We will continue it tomorrow to complete.

Continued to attach the stress relief structures to the connectors of the cables, and completed. Then I installed them to TMS-VIS-Y. Now all the cables are connected to the flanges.

Next: flipper cables are needed to connect the flange to the Dsub cables outside, so we need to assemble the flipper cables.
