SR3 Damper Tuning

For Enzo and Hatoya-san.

Today:

  • They set the SF damper successively to two new heights (3 mm and 5 mm above nominal, i.e., gaps of 6.5 mm and 8.5 mm), and took TFs at each stage.
  • In doing so, they noticed that the OL moved a significant amount in yaw as the damper was being raised, consistent with previous experience.
  • They speculate that there may be one or more ferromagnetic parts in the SF that are being attracted diagonally to magnets, with the yaw component of force reducing as the gap increases.
  • One candidate is the screws holding the Cu segments. Hirata-san will check the composition, and we will play around with the SR2 damper tomorrow to see if we can feel a force on magnets near the SF cap or the Cu segments.
